THE MEDICAL COUNCIL OF CANADA

THERAPEUTICS DECISION-MAKING EXAMINATION

What is the Medical Council of Canada Therapeutics Decision-Making (TDM) exam?

Therapeutics is defined as the application of knowledge in the pharmacological and non-pharmacological management of medical conditions. The TDM exam aims to assess the competence of candidates at the level required of a family physician practicing independently and safely in Canada.

How do I register for the TDM exam?

Applicants who have undergone PRA-BC's internal review may be invited to register for the next available TDM examination.

TDM exam dates in 2024 are:

  • January 17

  • June 5

  • September 25

Eligible applicants will be charged an examination and an administration fee prior to sitting the TDM exam. Sponsored PRA-BC candidates who attend and successfully complete a 12-week Clinical Field Assessment will be reimbursed for their TDM exam fees.

Is it possible to write the exam remotely?

TDM exam candidates have the option to write the exam in person at selected Prometric test centres in Canada or to use remote proctoring.

Remote proctoring offers candidates the opportunity to test anywhere globally, as long as the computer configuration and internet speed requirements are met. The remote-proctored exam will be delivered through Prometric’s ProProctor remote assessment platform. Exam day information is on the ProProctor check-in.

How can I prepare for the TDM exam?

  1. Download the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) TDM Examination Candidate Information Sheet.

  2. Review the detailed information and resources in the TDM Exam section on the MCC website.

*Candidates have a maximum of four TDM examination attempts, which includes a maximum of two pass results. Candidates who receive a fail result are ineligible to apply to the next examination session.
